Shanghai Boat Show Shines Spotlight on Marine Innovation and Sustainability

China's premier boating event, the 28th China International Boat Show (CIBS 2025), closed its doors on April 2nd after a successful run at the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition & Convention Centre. The show transformed more than 45,000 square meters of exhibition space into a vibrant marketplace where over 600 exhibitors connected with industry professionals and boating enthusiasts.

Running alongside The Lifestyle Show Shanghai and under the umbrella of the broader "Tourism Plus Shanghai" initiative, CIBS 2025 positioned itself at the intersection of marine recreation and tourism innovation. This strategic alignment reflects the growing recognition of boating's role in China's expanding tourism sector.

Sustainable marine technologies dominated the exhibition floor this year, signalling a significant shift in the industry's direction. CATL made waves with their comprehensive electric ship solutions, showcasing outboard motors ranging from compact 3kW models to powerful 100kW systems. Their 10.3-meter electric houseboats demonstrated how green technology can be successfully integrated into leisure vessels without compromising comfort or performance.

Perhaps the most forward-looking display came from Orcauboat, which presented its groundbreaking "ORCA-APAS" autonomous navigation system. As the only company holding CCS certification for unmanned boat navigation, Orcauboat's technology offers a glimpse into the future of marine automation.

Traditional powerhouse brands maintained a strong presence as well. YAMAHA unveiled its new F400ASTX outboard motor alongside specialised fishing engines, while Honda Power introduced its redesigned BF series outboards, which feature enhanced operational functions and improved user experience.

The show's international dimension was strengthened through collaboration with the International Council of Marine Industry Associations (ICOMIA). This partnership facilitated meaningful dialogue between global and Chinese companies through panel discussions and targeted matchmaking sessions. Industry leaders gathered to explore the future of the marine leisure sector in Asia-Pacific and beyond, addressing everything from yacht standards to digital transformation in the supply chain.

Knowledge sharing took centre stage during two major forum events. The China International Forum on Boat Industry Development brought together experts from across the industry spectrum. At the same time, a dedicated Seminar on Green Technology tackled critical topics including zero-carbon technologies and emission reduction strategies.

The exhibition concluded with the prestigious Asia Marine & Boating Awards 2025, celebrating excellence and innovation in China's rapidly evolving boat industry.

As Mr. Qiang Wu, Vice President of China Association of the National Shipbuilding Industry, observed during the opening ceremony: "Driven by upgrading market demand and deepening international cooperation, China will surely become the most promising growth area for the global yacht industry."

With its blend of cutting-edge technology, sustainability focus, and international collaboration, CIBS 2025 offered compelling evidence that China's marine sector is navigating confidently toward a future of innovation and growth.
